Leavensworth is a cute little Bavarian town in Washington state, up in the Cascade mountains and has approximately 2000 residents. It is 135 miles from Seattle - something like a 2.5 hour drive. It is in Chelan county and is modelled on a Bavarian village. I made several trips to Leavensworth between 2008 and 2009. One of the famous things about Leavensworth is the Oktoberfest when you can find all kinds of beer and a very cheerful crowd in the town.

Some more pictures, clicked in Feb 2009. I made a trip to Leavensworth ( from Redmond ) driving on the snow-covered US-2. It is a dangerous highway and is often called the highway of death. Avoid this road by all means, specially in the winter season when it is snow covered and slippery. If you're visiting Seattle, you should think about visiting Leavensworth. There's a lot to see and do over there. Kayaking, tasting wine or visiting some of the gardens and museums. You could also go on one of the guided tours.
