Target Audience: These notes on Atomic Structure are meant for college freshmen, or high school students in Grades 11 or 12. They
might be of use to Indian students preparing for the ISC or CBSE Class
11 and 12 Examinations, IIT JEE (main and advanced), AIEEE; students
from across the world preparing for their A Level Examinations, IB
(International Baccalaureate) or AP Chemistry.
This compilation of notes has been prepared by Ayushi Patel of IIT Gandhinagar. Complete Tutorial with Problems, Figures and Solutions :
A Tutorial on Chemical KineticsSummary and Outline of Notes: Here's a quick recap of the outline of topics which were covered in this tutorial
CHEMICAL KINETICSChemical kinetics helps to know about rate, occurance and mechanism of chemical reactions.
FACTORS AFFECTING RATE OF A REACTION : Concentration of reactants, Temperature, Surface area, Catalyst, Pressure, Intensity, Solvents, Reactants.
ORDER OF A REACTION :
Order of reaction is the sum of powers in the rate law of all the reactant terms. A discussion on zero, first, second and pseudo-first order reactions.
MOLECULARITY OF A REACTION :
Molecularity is the total number of molecules doing collision to form product. Molecularity can never be zero or fraction or negative.
ARRHENIUS EQUATION :It describes the realtion of rate constant with temperature.
Elementary reaction :A reaction which involves only one step. Multistep reaction :A reaction involving more than one stepis called multistep reaction.
COLLISION THEORY :According to this theory for a reaction to occur, the reactants should collide with each other. The reactants not participating in collision will not form product.Every collision not causes formation of product, only those collision which cross the energy called activation energy will form the product.Activation energy is the minimum energy needed by a reactant to form product .A collision will be effective only when it has energy greater than or equal to activation energy and there is proper orientation of molecules. Also, orientation of molecules plays role.If the orientation is not supporting formation of product, then, even if the energy barrier is crossed product not forms.
HYDROLYSIS OF ESTER :CH3COOC2H5 + H2O → CH3COOH + C2H5OH This is a first order reaction.
INVERSION OF CANE SUGAR :sucrose + water → glucose + fructose This is also a first order reaction.
