Jurong Bird Park, Singapore - A note about the Flamingos

Flamingos near the Pond

There are a large number of pretty, pink flamingos  ( Caribbean Flamingo variety ) at Jurong Bird Park, near a pond with a waterfall, quite close to the entrance to the Park. They are wading birds, found mostly in South America.

From the Description Plate at Jurong :

The Caribbean Flamingo has the brightest plumage of all flamingo species. Flamingos feed on Shellfish, Small Fish, brine shrims, algae and plants. They depend on pigments found in some of these food to maintain their plumage color. In the Bird Park, they add flamingo pellets to the flamingos diet to keep them 'in the pink'.
